The Soul of the Beast

The more I spend time with animals, the more I am totally amazed by how different and yet still similar they are in spirit. That sounds a bit silly to say. I guess, they take more and more of a shape for me; whereas they were for me before simply names and distant looks - the look of the horse, the look of the dog, the look of the cow -, they are now becoming souls as well - intricate, complex, characteristic, yet so particular.

Does the cow eat grass because it has a digestive system which can digest it, or because it has a soul which likes to eat grass? The question might sound silly. But such is the question which now comes to me.
